Some Life Updates!

Hello readers and happy summer! It’s been a while since I last posted as I’ve been wrapping up the end of the school year as you can see in a very recent previous blog post. However so many changes have happened in the past couple months!

For one, I recently turned 26 on May 2nd (I know, a very belated birthday to me). My husband treated me to my very first jazz club experience. I had mentioned to him before about how when I first moved to New York as a teenager for high school and more beyond that I would search for teen jazz clubs where I could have black coffee and listen to local talent amidst jazz music. Totally 90’s thinking of me, I know. So he decided to take me to this jazz club in Harlem called Smoke. This jazz club had great food and the jazz performances were awesome! My husband and others have always said I seem more mature for my age but this was truly an enjoyable experience and one I will always remember.

Secondly, we now have a new addition to the family – Mocha! Isn’t he cute? He’s a shih tzu/poodle mix and was about 2.5 months when we got him during the memorial day weekend. We have had his older sister Hazelnut for a little bit now and I felt a little bad that she didn’t necessarily have someone to keep up with all of her energy. So coming home from the movies that weekend, I saw him and fell in love. Let me tell you though, having two dogs does teach you a lot about patience and have given me a glimpse of what we may be like when we eventually expand upon our human family. Hazelnut was not initially fond of having a new younger brother as some older siblings can be but now the two regularly play around our apartment and I’d say are warming up to each other as well as getting plenty of exercise. As soon as I can get him fully potty trained, we’d be golden!

Lastly but certainly not least, I’ve been doing some research and planning and have decided to obtain a second master’s degree! I will be working on a Master’s of Science for Educational Leadership starting in July! I want to eventually seek a role as a literacy coach so I can further support other teachers and build literacy skills for all so have decided this might be the best course for me. I am super excited and eager to start school again so this summer will be packed with some meaningful experiences for me personally and professionally. Also on another professional note, my principal has decided to recommend me for tenure which is definitely another welcome set of news moving forward on top of an already great school year with my amazing students!

I thought I’d share these great news as I’m really excited and optimistic for these recent developments. Though there has been no movement on my novel in terms of publication, and I will be writing more soon (and you can still check out my novel and review here!), I am eager as I start on some critical next steps on these other facets in my life. As summer is upon us and the weather is getting nicer and nicer, I hope you find moments and be opportunities to appreciate and grow as well. Happy summer again readers, and share some good news about yourself in the comments!
