2019 – The Year of Promise

Happy New Year fellow readers! Every year I like to reflect on the previous one and highlight accomplishments and goals for the upcoming year. I have been fortunate to have made some progress on some of my short-term goals but this year, I think I really want to sow seeds for some of my more long-term goals not only professionally but personally as well. However one realization that I have been pondering the past few days is that since I am so young in my career, NOW is the time to take some risks and see where they take me. I am so fortunate and blessed where I am now that there is room for opportunity that I should dive into now before I regret later.

For instance, I have always considered myself a creative person by nature. Ever since I was young I would love to create stories and let my imagination take me to far off lands and adventures with my dolls to my pen and paper, hence a love of writing since I learned to do so. However I also love art and showed great promise when I was young and still doodle from time to time but not nearly as much as I did before. Another side hobby of mine – baking! I love baking and unveiling my creations for family and friends to enjoy. Acting, singing, dancing, love of movies and TV shows have always been things I enjoyed and would ponder every now and then but self-doubt always crept in. I won’t be good enough, there’s no stability in the arts, settle with a practical job, competition is so harsh even if you are good but why chance it? All of these thoughts prevented me from really delving into passion projects.

This year, among some of my other goals, I do want to invest time into my arts and passion projects. Instead of fantasizing of what could be or if I’m any good, why not just try and be able to say I’ve done it? I’ve already started by signing up for an improv class so let’s see how that goes!

Although, just to be clear, I do love what I do as an educator and am always seeking to opportunities to learn, grow and perfect my craft. So below are just some of the main goals I do want to focus on this year:

  1. Write more.
  2. Reflect, reflect, reflect.
  3. Invest time into the arts and/or creative passion projects.
  4. Grow finances.
  5. Travel.
  6. Enjoy the small moments in life!

I know this may seem a simple list but I always feel as though goals and resolutions should be simple until you actively commit to a plan to see it through. What are your goals and resolutions for 2019? What have you always wanted to do but never put much effort to? Maybe 2019 is your year of promise into something new!
